2007 Lacheteau Vouvray - $6.99

Big floral nose of citrus and melon. Giant grapefruit taste that doesn't linger too long. Great touch of acidity. Had some friends over to watch Jeopardy and everyone enjoyed this, even those that typically don't go for whites. With the low alcohol (11.5%) and the everyman approachability, this is a sure fire pick for a nice sunny day, be it on the porch or at the kickball field.

thumbs up - 89

  1. Just recently had a 2006 vintage - it was sitting in my cellar for 2-3 years. Very good semi-sweet wine!

  2. Absolutely. Was best overall winner at our 'European Whites' wine tasting party this summer.

  3. Could only find the 2008 and unfortunately it was a disappointment. The label says semi-dry, but it is actually very sweet. The French would call this style Moelleux. If you want a crisp, drier example of Chenin Blanc, the the main white grape grown in Vouvray, look elsewhere.

  5. If you like slightly sweet white wines with nice acidity and nice complexity, then this Vouveray (Chenin Blanc) will knock your socks off. Way better than any Pinot Grigio i've tasted and similar to a New Zealand Sav Blanc but more complex. Great for a summer picnic or Hollywood Bowl concert.
