Nice nose of dark berry and black cherry with just a hint of tobacco. The taste is plummy and peppery, but vanishes quickly on the finish. The color and mouthfeel are a bit heavier than your typical pinot, but there's nothing wrong with that in my book.
I love this wine! I always look for good bottles in the $10 price range, and I always come back to this Pinot Noir at TJ's. I live in Las Vegas, and the wine-guy at our Trader Joe's does tastings and will pair bottles with whatever food is in your cart. I discovered this bottle when I asked him what I should have with the salmon I was going to cook that night. He said it is one of two $10 Pinot's that he swears by. That says a lot coming from a previous sommelier.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this one. It stood up nicely to a mild curry, and is soon to be tested against something spicier.
ReplyDeleteI expected great things from this wine, but was disappointed. My experience is best described as flat; there was no discernable depth of flavor. Considering the rave reviews from others, I can only hope that I came across a uniquely unfortunate bottle.
ReplyDeleteWe love this wine. It's very rare to find a Pinot under $10 that tastes this good, or that tastes good at all for that matter...
ReplyDeleteI consider this a lucky find, as we can now enjoy a decent Pinot Noir any day of the week!
Wow!! This is a great pinot considering the price. We have been spoiled by single vinyard designate pinots for which we have paid upwards of $42. It has nice fruit and a smooth finish that is reminiscent of the more expensive pinots. We are definitely going to stock up on this one.
