ReplyDeleteWith all due respect (and you've tasted more wine than I have, I'll wager), I think you should give this one another go.
From your description, and from what I tasted when I drank the very same wine recently, it tastes exactly the way a Chablis is supposed to taste. Now, my bias is that too much Chardonnay (and this Chablis is 100% Chardonnay) is nothing but an oak bomb. Whereas Chablis is a Chardonnay that's been treated the way the grape used to be treated before Americans discovered Kendall Jackson. I hope that make sense.
In sum: I didn't jump for joy when I drank it, either, but I would reach for this before many of the wood-burdened Chardonnays on TJ's shelves.
Carry on, I enjoy the blog, but I wanted to comment on this one bottle.
Frank, always great to hear what others think. I'll keep my eyes open for more Chablis to try.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Brendan and Frank. I am just back from a trip to France, via Chablis, and went to TJ to feel I was still on vacation. Well, there are definitely much better wines in Chablis than at TJ, but again this one is at TJ's price (8$!) and is so much more honest than any California "wood flavored" Chardonay. (And no headache the next morning...).
