Gorgeous deep inky purple color. Dark, alluring, seductive nose. Big hit of berry flavor and cotton mouth on the get go. Green and earthy undertones. Finishes with a hint of what I'm going to call carmel tobacco. A bit high on the alcohol at 14.5%, which might turn some off, but this is a budget Zin I can really get behind.
thumbs up - 88
I've been on the lookout for Rendition in the South Bay, but haven't seen in on the shelves. I'm starting to wonder how varied the selections are between TJ locations--I seem to find only half the wines you give a thumbs up to.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Portland, OR and even between stores across town I see quite a bit of diversity in the wine selection. If you're looking for a specific wine, don't hesitate to ask.
ReplyDeleteI had a talk with the wine buyer at our local TJ's. He confirmed that regions (and some stores) buy and stock independently.
ReplyDeleteGood info to keep in mind. Thanks for getting confirmation on that Dave. Hopefully it's mostly bad wines that aren't getting stocked in your neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteThis finally showed up in the Cupertino TJ's. It's tastey for a sub $10 Zin, but twice triggered a stuffy head the next morning. A bit high on sulfites, perhaps? Unfortunate, as this would otherwise be a keeper.
ReplyDeleteJust had a few glasses of this last night and it's still mighty tasty. No stuffy head here, but if it's getting you each time, might be best to switch it up. Buffalo Trace bourbon has done the same to me on a couple of occasions, but stubborn 'ol me keeps going back for more.
ReplyDeleteIt is my stand by. I am also in Portland, Oregon and we have it in many of the stores but sometimes there is a shortage...perhaps because people are realizing how good it is.
