NV L'Authentique Red Table Wine - $4.99

Described by the Trader Joe's employee recently seen in the wine aisle as "the best French wine we've got," this sub-$5 wine was a great choice for my first review. Drinkable right out of the bottle, L'Authentique was thick and delicious, light Syrah-like in flavor and would work well with most typical red wine friendly foods.

I'll definitely be adding this to my short list of regular wine buys.

thumbs up - 4.5/5

  1. I love this wine for the price. Wine snobs look down their nose at it 'cause it it doesn't have a big nose to it. For the price you can't beat it! It's a big seller. Easy to drink, somewhat silky with a nice finish. It's 4 bucks now.

  2. Edward, I totally agree. Sadly, I haven't been able to find this in my local TJ's (Hollywood District - Portland, OR) lately. Where are you buying it for $4? I know TJ's prices things differently throughout the country. It'll be fun to see who gets stuff cheap and who pays a premium.

  3. This was a tasty easy drinker, as advertised. It doesn't knock your socks off, but I haven't found a $5 TJ's wine that does. Still searching.

Had this with a white garlic and onion pizza. The wine was probably better on its own than with the food.

    1. Just curious if you have tried the Cocobon? $5.99?

  4. This is one of our all time favorites. It's hot here in the South but you can pop open this bottle and sip it neat any time of day, any time of year. Even July in Hotlanta! So very quaffable.

  7. My house has relied on this as the general house wine for almost a decade--The tasty simplicity of Authentique pairs with so many dishes, from appetizers to roast meats or rich pasta dishes, and at the price--around four bucks--is a remarkable bargain. I live near Chico, CA where I pick it up and was reticent to write a positive review lest it catch on and get gobbled up with enthusiasm.

  8. Bought today in Valencia, CA for $4 at TJ's and very happy with it. Really pleasantly surprised. I can uncork most wines in 2 seconds and this was a 2 minute workout, but once in, the wine was delightful. Far superior to the $3 buck Chuck for the extra buck.
